Day 4 A Beach Day

It seemed like a good idea, after several days of walking and sight-seeing, to find us a beach! We drove to a nearby National Park and declared Day 4 a Picnic/Beach Day. A picnic spread in Turkey might include lots of olives, cheese, borek (pastry with meat, cheese, spinach or potatoes), fresh fruit or veggies and maybe some wafer cookies...so we stopped at the outdoor market in Selcuk before leaving and stocked up on the like. When we arrived at the beach, we were a bit disappointed to find rocks instead of sand, but we had a yummy lunch and the troops had fun rock-skipping, as well as rock-stacking.

After a while, Ryan took the olders on a hike down the beach. The hike seemed a bit treacherous for Josie (and Mom?), so we stayed back and hunted for shells and sparkly rocks. Truth be told, I was really scared for Ryan to take the kids on this hike, and the whole time they were gone I was panicking. But they all returned with big smiles on their faces and carrying their "Adventure is out there!" banner (well, not a real banner), so I breathed a big sigh of relief, paused to remember who I married, and let the day be!

Before we left, Thys decided to take the Polar Plunge...Ryan couldn't be bested...so the boys had their first chilly encounter with Aprils Aegean Sea.
