Our three year search for a Pumpkin Patch has finally been fruitful! And we didn't have to go MUCH further than our own back yard. Turns out that the farmer, who we always buy produce from in the summers, also grows pumpkins in the fall. And his farmstand is only a mile or two away, on the Buyukcekmece reservoir. When we found a huge pile of pumpkins on his property in October, we almost went crazy! He found it strange that we wanted to climb on the pile of pumpkins, sort through them and pick our own. For him, and the whole of Turkey, the pumpkins are really only for cooking/eating. When we hauled 8 pumpkins away that day, I'm sure he thought we were totally cuckoo. But I didn't know how to explain to him that we traditionally carve them and display them on our porch in October. I don't know that he would have appreciated knowing that, anyway. We were pretty stoked to discover that he even had some orange ones, as most are gray, green or white...yahoo!! Happy fall! All's we were missing was an apple orchard, fresh apple cider and some cider doughnuts...maybe a scarecrown or two, a corn maze and petting farm...but we're happy for what we can get these days!

Gravitating towards orange
Jake was so excited, he would've adopted 20 pumpkins that day!
A Diamond in the Rough (not Mia, the pumpkin!)
Our lucky pumpkins; orange, green, speckled, large & small...
Thys missed out that day!
Carved!
